When I was newly pregnant with my first, I went on a trip to Vail, Colorado with my friends from high school. One of them was the first to have a baby—just a couple of months old. It was the summer and we had lots of hiking to do. My friend took her baby with us everywhere, using a wrap and stroller. I was amazed by her gracefulness with this little human—and by the trail jogging stroller which handled the terrain!
Indeed, there are many different types of strollers out there and it would be a huge mistake to think that just any stroller can be a jogging stroller, and that any jogging stroller can be a trail jogging stroller. That’s kind of like thinking a Keds shoe could run a marathon….
How is a trail jogging stroller different than a regular stroller?
To be a stroller than can handle bumps, jolts, hills, and fast paces—you need a stroller that has a quality suspension system, thick tires, and safety features like harnesses, wrist straps, and hand brakes. Most trail running strollers will have these features and the label “all-terrain”, “high suspension”, or a synonym for “adventure” in its name.
All-terrain trail jogging strollers have a heavier frame that are triangular in shape, capable of remaining steady even over the toughest terrain. These strollers usually have air-filled rubber tires (not all) but they are larger than the ones on a jogging stroller, and stronger so they are less likely to be punctured on your run. All-terrain strollers can be used in snow, over rocks, on woodland trails, and on sandy beaches.

How I did this review of the best trail jogging strollers
To round up this list of ten of the best trail jogging strollers, I gathered the help of my mother runner friends: I polled my 22,000 followers on Instagram, researched the best trail jogging strollers online (and hired a researcher to help with the workload), read hundreds of good reviews and bad, and then whittled the list from the thirties to ten. (Kind of like a squid game or reality show contest for trail running strollers.) There are some budget options on here in case you don’t plan to run on trails a lot, but just sometimes.

This stroller is easy to fold, has a 5-point harness, incline option, and folds compact which is great for keeping it in the car trunk or storing it in tight spaces like a small apartment. The Joovy Zoom stroller has an all-weather canopy to keep your child protected from the sun, wind, and rain, and there is a boo window on the back so you can keep an eye on them.

This stroller weighs in at 23.6 pounds, and it has a maximum weight capacity of 50 pounds. The Expedition stroller has an easy to use five-point harness, with height adjustable shoulder straps. This stroller has rubber pneumatic tires that make moving over rough terrain a smooth ride for your child.
This stroller takes two hands to fold but it is easy to use, and folds compact. It is also able to stand when folded, and the rear wheels are removable to make travel easier. The seat on this stroller can recline in multiple positions and in its most reclined position it’s perfect for napping.
The stroller has a water-proof canopy and a swinging tray that’s perfect for snacks and toys. The tray also works as the base for a Baby Trend infant car seat. The stroller has an underseat storage area which offers plenty of room for a diaper bag. There are also two cup holders and a storage compartment for your cell phone, keys, or sunglasses.

This stroller can be folded down with one hand, but it does not stand when it is collapsed closed. The stroller weighs 28.5 pounds, and the maximum weight capacity is 75 pounds. The stroller can recline nearly flat, which is great for kids who like to nap while you run. The seat of this stroller is a little higher than some of the other brands at 19 inch.
The five-point harness system is padded to keep your kiddo safe and comfortable. This stroller has both hand and foot brakes, as well as a runaway strap. There are 12 inch front air-filled tires, and 16” rear air-filled tires with all wheel suspension for a smooth ride even on rough terrain. You can change the fixed front wheel to swivel wheel mode with a simple side lever that’s perfect for walking and jogging in intervals.

This stroller can be folded down with one hand and the wheels even fold in to make it even more compact. This stroller weighs 25.3 pounds and has a maximum weight limit of 75 pounds. It also has an adjustable seat but there are no fully upright, or fully reclined positions, though it does get close to fully reclined.

The Thule Urban Glide 2 is good for infants from birth with the car seat adapter bar that can be purchased separately. This stroller has an adjustable handlebar, and the harness is a padded five point configuration that is adjustable at the shoulders and waist. There is an easy-to-use handbrake on the handlebar that you simply twist to slow the speed of the stroller, which can come in handy in hilly terrain. There’s also a footbrake that you can easily flip up even in sandals or flip flops.
The Thule has a small storage compartment underneath the stroller, but there is not a parent tray or water bottle holder. They are available to purchase separately if that is important to you. This stroller does come with a large canopy that has reflective edges, perfect for early morning or evening runs. There is also a peek-a-boo window so you can keep an eye on your baby. The Thule Urban Glide is also available in a double stroller configuration.

This stroller comes in at 28.5 pounds and the maximum weight capacity is 75 pounds. The seat is easily adjustable with the simple squeeze of a button. There is a padded five-point harness that is easily adjusted for your child’s height and comfort. This stroller requires two hands and two steps to fold it down completely which is definitely not ideal, but the smooth ride and easy maneuverability make up for it.

This stroller has a large adjustable canopy to keep your child protected from the elements, and there is a magnetic closure peek-a-boo window so you can keep an eye on them. There is an extra-large cargo basket underneath the seat, and there are six pockets for storage as well, including a cell phone pocket attached to the adjustable handlebar. This stroller doesn’t come with cup holders, or a child tray but they are available for purchase separately. The car seat adapter is also sold separately but does work with most car seat brands.
The BOB Gear Revolution Flex stroller is also sold as a double stroller, and there is also a travel system available. The travel system includes the BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 stroller, a Britax B-Safe infant carrier, and the BOB gear adapter.

This stroller is a nice choice for active families, and there is a double stroller version as well.
The Thule Chariot Lite weighs 25.7 pounds and it has a maximum child weight capacity of 75 pounds. This stroller comes with a screen cover that zips on the sides and clips at the bottom which is great for keeping away bugs, and keeping dirt and dust from the road from flying into little faces. It has color coded buttons that you push to collapse the stroller and fold it down, but it does take two hands.
The Thule Chariot Lite comes with two small plastic front tires, and two very large (20 inches) air filled tires in the back. These large tires ensure a smooth ride even on uneven surfaces. This stroller pushes easily and has excellent suspension. There is no hand brake on this stroller but you can purchase one separately. There is a foot brake at the base of the stroller that can be easily engaged or disengaged by flipping it up or down with your foot.
This stroller has a five-point safety harness, but the seats do not recline, and there is no car seat compatibility. You can purchase an infant sling to use with this stroller separately, but it is not recommended until your baby can hold their head up well on their own. (It is not recommended to run with an infant in the sling!). The handlebars on this stroller are fully adjustable, and there is a storage pouch in the back of the stroller.

The handlebar is fully adjustable and this stroller comes with a handbrake that many runners consider a must have. There is also a round foot brake system and you can lock the front wheel. You will find plenty of room for your gear in the closed, waterproof storage bin underneath the seat. This stroller is car seat compatible with any Graco car seats that have the click to connect snap, of which there are many. You can buy this stroller as a travel system where you get the car seat and the stroller in one package.
